These streets gather a very interesting wealth of cuisine, art and landscape, revealing along the route some real gems of art and history such as Massa Marittima, Roccastrada, Monterotondo Marittimo, Scarlino, Gavorrano, Castiglione della Pescaia.

San Gimignano: the town of towers

The town stands high with the profile of its towers, on a hill of the dominion of the Elsa valley.
The place of a small Etruscan village, its history starts around the 10th century, taking the name of the saint who was bishop of Modena: Saint Gimignano, who saved the borough from hordes of barbarians.

Massa Marittima: a real jewel of medieval town planning

Divided into old and new parts, Massa Marittima is a treasure of art and history.
Going up and down little streets and alleys which entwine with each other, in the lower part of the town you can see the impressive Basilica of San Cerbone.

The wine route of Chianti Rufina and Pomino

The gentle hills which form a green frame east of Florence are the home of this wine route which was the first to be built in Tuscany.
The area is included in the municipalities of Rufina, Pontassieve, Pelago, Londa and Dicomano.

The wine route of the Etruscan coast

It extends from the Metaliferous Hills of the inland of Pisa up to the province of Livorno and it is along this route that some of the most exclusive vineyards of Italian production are cultivated and are the origins of wines like Ornellaia and Sassicaia, Guado al Tasso, Montescudaio and Val di Cornia.

Rufina

The name Rufina, according to experts, is of Etruscan origin, relics from the 9th century confirm the existence of this village since the villanovian era.
At Rufina the name of the village has been confused for at least a century with that of the wine.

Livorno:
the town of the Mediceans

The town is situated on the Tyrrhenian coast, on the bank south of the alluvial plateau of the Arno river. For this position Livorno is not only an important industrial and commercial centre but also one of the biggest Italian ports.

"Borgo San Carlo" is the starting point to discover the "Chocolate Valley"

Tuscany is famous world wide for its fine and exclusive wines and breathtakingly-beautiful landscapes. Another jewel to add to this is the fine quality of an exquisite chocolate production.
A "Chocolate Route” is presently being prepared which will go around the area between Pisa and Prato which is already defined as the "Chocolate Valley", taking in the municipalities of Montopoli, Monsummano Terme ed Agliana.

Pisa: ancient marine republic

Pisa rises on the banks of the Arno river, in the middle of an alluvial plain. In medieval times it was a marine republic and had an important port which with the passing of time became buried by the detritus from the Arno river.
The centre is famous for its Piazza del Duomo or Campo dei Miracoli, a large grassy area where the cathedral, baptistery, the leaning tower and churchyard stand.

Truffles are without doubt a very fine delicacy, nowadays quoted at a price of around € 2000 a Kg., but this tuber is not only a delight for your taste buds but many also consider it to be a natural aphrodisiac.
Those of you who want to try this delicacy and its magic powers will find in the town of San Miniato their Eldorado.

The wine route of Vernaccia of San Gimignano

It was the first Italian wine to receive a registered designation of origin.
The Vernaccia of San Gimignano boasts a tradition of over a century and was quoted by Dante Alighieri in his Inferno, it was much appreciated by Lorenzo dei Medici and Pope Leone the tenth, who got it sent to Rome.

Roccastrada (Gr): visit the oil presses;
Sovereto (Li): 11th November "San Lorenzo olio" exhibition and tasting of local products.
